Ranunculus Field card

The Girls Night In at Moore Park was a fun night. They had lots of lovely foody nibbles going around and they were doing cocktails for $5. Not that I was drinking, one because I was driving and two because I thought I should remain a bit professional.

If you've been to the new line section lately you'll notice I've started stocking the Stampendous range of unmounted stamps. I had to order one of these Ranunculus Field stamps for me as I thought it was just gorgeous and after a qucik play this is the card I came up with.

I was going to tell you about the yoga retreat I went to last weekend. Now I have to say first of all that I don't do yoga, not that I haven't tried it a few times over the years but I tend to get 3/4 of the way through a class and I'm thinking to myself "can we just hurry up and get this over with". So when a few of the girls went "lets do a yoga weekend" I wasn't that keen. However they sold it to me with the proviso that you didn't have to do any of the classes if you didn't want to and besides they had other activities besides yoga.

Thats how I came to go along to the Juma health retreat held at the Glasshouse Mountains Eco Lodge on the Sunshine Coast. We booked in at 2pm on Friday, settled into our room, had a wander around and met up with everyone for afternoon tea at 4pm. At 5pm we went into the old church they have there and did a yoga class (yes even me) and I have to say it was great. One of the best things was that it was light while we were "yogaing" and the last part was a relaxation bit so you were laying down with your eyes closed listening to the teacher and we didn't realise it but the sun had gone down and she had walked around and lit candles so you came back to earth in this beautiful setting. We then had dinner at 6.30pm and the food is fantastic, all vegetarian and freshly made, definitely ten out of ten for the food. To keep the costs down they do ask for some help in the kitchen but it all adds to teh experience. Oh and the kitchen and dining area is in two old train carriages so its a lot of fun. After that back to the church at 8.30pm for a guided meditation.

They do four retreats a year and they do vary the activities a little but ours was:
Saturday 6.30am yoga - 8.00am breakfast - 10am Ki Aikido - 1.00pm lunch - 2.00pm Astrology - 3.30pm afternoon tea - 4.30pm belly dancing - 7.00pm dinner - 8.00pm games, music, story telling
Sunday 6.30am guided bushwalk - 8.00am breakfast - 10am yoga - 12.30pm lunch - 2.00pm departure.

They also have massage and beauty therapists available through the weekend and I booked in for a massage and it was well worth it. It's an extra charge.

So how did I come home brusied and battered? Well after the bushwalk on Sunday morning we were in the bungalow room having a chat before breakfast and they have about 5 steps from the door to the lounge area. As I went to leave I slipped on the top step and slid/crashed to the bottom step. I had my camera in my hand too so it ended up bouncing down the steps and came to rest at the bottom with me. I was bruised, it was broken, I guess thats better than the other way around.

Anyway overall it's a great weekend and if you are looking for a new experience I'd recommend it.

Do Not Call Register

Are you sick of being called all the time by people trying to sell you things especially when you're trying to have dinner?

A couple of years ago we put ourselves on the Do Not Call Register and that seemed to solve most of the problem. Of course charities and politicians are still allowed to have access to your number.

Anyway it only lasts three years and then it's open season again. So as I was re-registering this morning I thought I would send you a reminder that you can get a little peace and quiet.

To register go to http://www.donotcall.gov.au/ or call 1300 792 958

Next post I'll tell you about the yoga retreat I went to last weekend and came back bruised and shaken.

Calling all local crafters

Anita and I are putting together a craft showcase to be held over two days the week before Mothers Day so we're looking for local crafters or artists that would like to be site holders.

It will be held at the PCYC and we'll be open Friday 30th April 10am til 4pm and Saturday 1st May 9am til 4pm. We have booked the hall and the forecourt area and stalls will be $50 for inside and $40 for outside. If you are interested please contact either one of us or if you can think of anyone else (or a group) that would be interested please pass on the information. We will be giving first consideration to people who can attend the two days but it may be possible to have a site for one day so contact us if you would like your name taken for that.

Perhaps you'd just like to come along and shop. If you have a business and would like some A5 flyers to hand out please contact me.

A concert in Brisbane

I've been busy with a few things lately and had to spend some time away. Some business things, some boring stuff and a chance to catch up with a very good friend in Brisbane. In honour of C's birthday we had tickets to go and see a concert at Boondall entertainment centre in Brisbane. The lineup was Melody Gardot, Madeleine Peyroux and Diana Krall.

Now I have to admit the reason we were going was to see Madeleine but I have to say we were really impressed with Melody, she has such a beautiful clear voice and a happy, light jazz style that reminds you of those old 50's movies where everyone got dressed up and went out to dance and dine. A few days later I went out and bought her CD "My one and only thrill" and I've been playing it a lot.

At the risk of offending the huge amount of Diana fans out there (and I've spoken to a lot), I have to say she's not my cup of tea, just too jazzy for me. I found myself wishing she would just finish the song for goodness sake, stop adding in all the piano bits and the guy on base. Not to say she hasn't got a fantastic voice because she has and I really enjoyed 3 of the songs that she did, but not enough to make me what to see her again.

As I said we really wanted to see Madeleine Peyroux and she didn't disapoint, the only thing was that she was the second act and as such sang for about 40 minutes when it would've been nice to have much more. Actually the other point was that they were shooting a DVD at the concert and every so often (more regular than you'd think) a camera on a boom would waft around the stage and get in front of them. Anyway it was great to catch up with C and go out to hear people sing.
